Neti Pot

Neti Treatment is the combination of water, salt and the pot used. Only these three ingredients comprise of Netipot Therapy. Let’s go in detail on the composition used for the healing.

Neti solution used for the therapy is just the combination of two things in the pot:

  1. Saline (Salt Solution) Packets
  2. Clean Water

Salt Solution Procedure

The mixture used for nasal irrigation is simply a combination of salt and water. Make sure to use distilled, sterile or boiled lukewarm water. For the nasal irrigation process, mix about 16 ounces or 1 pint of lukewarm water with a teaspoon of salt or you mix the readily available Neti pot salt packet with water.

Usage of Water

Moving on to the usage of water, let us see the best kind of water to be used in the process. If we are speaking about clean water, what does the term “Clean” means? Obviously, the water quality you choose will play an important role, no matter whether its boiled water, filtered water or distilled water.

Confused, or not clear on what water to use for the therapy let us look into details.

If you are choosing to use boiled water the boil the normal water for atleast five minutes or microwave it. This would purify contaminants and release the chlorine from the water. Now cool it and use with the mixture of saline for therapy.

1. Filtered Water

Filtration of water will kill the contamination in the water. Filtration process will also reduce the chlorine content in the water. It is the quickest and easiest procedure to use it in Neti pot treatment.

Though both of the above mentioned processes are cheapest form of cleansing water, it is always better to merge both. You can boil the water and then filter the same or vice versa. After that, you can use slightly warm water to create the Netipot solution for therapy.

2. Distilled Water

Distilled water is the purest form of water, but ensure to get the quality water from a reputable company. Distilled water is made by boiling water to remove impurities and then the condensed steam is filled into a clean container and sold. This water is very safe to clean the contact lens as well as to use for Netipots.

3. Tap water

Water from the tap is supposed to be pure but actually it is not pure enough to irrigate your sinus. Though city engineers and officials of water department announce that a city’s tap water is “safe for use,” they generally mean safe for drinking and bathing, but not necessarily for irrigating your sinuses. Hence tap water is not a good choice for therapy. But if you have no other choice, boil the water thoroughly.

What kind of water should you choose in neti pot?

If you have distilled water you can use it for therapy. Or else you can use filtered and boiled water merging both for the neti treatment which will kill the germs and make water very safe.

Water temperature in neti pot

Keep in mind that the temperature of the water used should be comfort enough to use. Normally lukewarm is easy and nice for clearing up the nossil blockage. Though the water is boiled or heated it is always better to cool it. Remember it should not be too hot or too cold, but just lukewarm.
